2007-2008 WINTER INDOOR FUTSAL |
|
Ludington Soccer is pleased to present a 2nd Annual Winter Indoor Futsal Soccer Program! Partnered with Premier Sports Academy Professional Training, and organized regionally at West Shore community College in Scottville, winter indoor soccer is coming to West Michigan! Futsal is a fast moving, indoor soccer game played on a basketball style court with a low bounce ball and no walls. The Futsal game by design promotes superior ball handling skills, and is a great off season program. The game features end to end action, tight control, goal after goal. It truly is the best teacher for technical and tactical development. The game requires four field players and a goalkeeper. Continuing this season is a 6 week fast paced fustal and advanced skills training program. We have expanded sessions to include youth ages U8, U10 & U12. New for 2007-2008 will be the introduction of organized youth league play for U14 girls and U14 boys. It would be our goal to see this become a regional program, and would like to extend invitations to all clubs located in the Mason, Manistee and Oceana county areas to participate. Please call Jeff Babcock at 425.6235 for your questions, or also feel free to contact Premier Sports directly at 616.682.4700. |

What is Futsal? During the winter months when outdoor soccer is difficult to play because of the weather, someone may suggest you play futsal, but maybe you have never heard of this form of soccer. Futsal is actually a compact form of soccer that is played with amazing speed and breathtaking footwork. It is a sport that is a derivative of soccer and played with five-man teams on a basketball style court, with no walls and a smaller (size 3) low-bouncing ball, unlike the traditional sport of U.S. indoor soccer played with six-man squads and walls on an ice hockey rink. The term Futsal is the international term used for the game. It is derived from the Spanish or Portuguese word for "soccer", FUTbol or FUTebol, and the French or Spanish word for "indoor", SALon or SALa. While it is mostly played indoors, any basketball court or rectangular area could be used to play the game. What are the main differences between soccer and futsal? Aside from the smaller court and fewer players, the goals are much smaller as well with dimensions only 2 meters by 3 meters. In addition, unlimited substitution is allowed during the game. Also, instead of throw-ins when the ball goes out of bounds, there are kick-ins. Because of the amount of running involved up and down the court, the games consist of two 20-minute halves. Why should I play futsal? If you want to work on your footwork, passing and conditioning, it's a great way to train for your club or high school's outdoor soccer season. By playing futsal, your trapping, ability to move with the ball in close spaces and positional defending will also greatly improve. Plus, it's much easier to find a basketball court than rent time at an indoor facility. It's also a great sport to watch live. Without the walls, there could be upwards of thousands of people seated within a few feet of you on the sidelines. It's an incredible atmosphere to see a game.
